For over 25 years, the Laboratoire BF International has developed a knowhow in the field of high-pressure emulsions, without aggressive surfactants. We are today the only subcontractor equipped with a high-pressure homogenizer.

In 2017, we received the “Cosmetic 360 Formulation & Manufacturing” award for our biomimetic and bioavailable NOA System® formulas that are designed using a high-pressure homogenizer. This technology makes it possible to obtain an emulsion with droplets measuring between 20 and 200 nanometres, using natural non-aggressive surfactants.

A study conducted with Transderma demonstrates the benefits of this advanced technology:

  • Boosted efficiency of the active ingredients (1.5x higher than a classic emulsion)
  • Deep hydration
  • Controlled penetration of the actives
  • Immediate feeling of “plumped” skin

NOA System®

Since its creation, the Laboratoire BF International has been focusing its know-how on R&D concerning emulsions obtained thanks to a high-pressure process. This technology provides consumers with the best results in the short and long term. The new patented NOA System® technology is based on the suspension of nanoscale oil droplets in an aqueous dispersing medium.

The NOA System® is characterized by nanometre-sized dispersed droplets

The oil droplets measure between 20 and 200 nm. This feature provides to these emulsions the ability to preserve the active ingredients and to make them penetrate more deeply into the epidermis.

Why evolve towards this type
of high-tech formulation?

The system formed by the aqueous phase and the oily phase in the NOA System® is very similar to the structure of the hydrolipidic film of the skin. Furthermore, high-pressure emulsions form lamellar layers similar to the lipid bilayer of the stratum corneum. These biomimetic formulations make it possible, on the one hand, to increase the affinity between the product and the skin thus promoting a quick penetration, and on the other hand to significantly reduce the sensory reactions of the most sensitive or intolerant skin.

Our technology makes it possible to “Create a skin within your skin®

Active ingredients vectorization

Due to the very small size of the droplets, lipophilic active ingredients can penetrate deeper into the dermis, allowing them to be more efficient (up to 1,5 times). There is also a significant penetration of water into the skin, which is not the case with conventional emulsions.

This feature allows a targeted vectorization of both water-soluble and fat-soluble active ingredients, as well as a better bioavailability over time. Indeed, active molecules penetrate the skin tissues in-depth and stay there longer than in a conventional emulsion, enabling a long-lasting action and a boosted hydration.

The NOA System® can be used as a raw material, active ingredient or finished product. These formulas are white to transparent, with bluish reflections. They can be declined from sprayable fluid textures to creamy thick textures.

With high-pressure emulsions, it is possible to obtain particular refined sensorialities while having clean formulations. According to their percentage of introduction in the final formula of your product, they provide a silky and lightweight “silicon-like” effect on the skin, with no sticky or greasy side-effect.  These emulsions penetrate instantly into the skin, leaving it fuller and denser, visibly nourished and hydrated.
